Privacy Policy
Askive is an iPhone app that lets you build a private library of your photos, videos, audio recordings and documents, and ask questions about them. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, who processes it, and how you can delete it. Askive is published by Smbdm Marketing Services Co., L.L.C. ("we", "us").
1. Data we collect
- Your email address. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. We store your email address and a display name to identify your account.
- Files you choose to upload. Only the photos, videos, audio files and documents you explicitly add to Askive. The app never scans or uploads your photo library, camera roll or files on its own.
- Content generated from your files. For each file we create and store a title, summary, tags, key points, timestamped moments and, for audio and video, a transcript.
- Your questions. The questions you type on the Ask screen are sent to our server to produce an answer. We do not keep a history of your questions after the answer is returned.
- Basic account and technical records. Sign-in sessions, file sizes and your storage usage, a count of how many questions you ask (not their text), and standard server logs (such as the time of a request and whether it succeeded), used to run and secure the service.
We do not collect your location, contacts, health data, advertising identifier or browsing history. Askive contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
2. How we use your data
- To sign you in and keep your account secure.
- To store your library and show it to you on your device.
- To analyse your files with AI so they become searchable, and to answer the questions you ask about them.
- To enforce storage limits and keep the service running reliably.
We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or use your files for any purpose other than providing Askive to you.
3. Service providers who process your data
- Google (Gemini API). To analyse a file or answer a question, the relevant file or text is sent to Google's Gemini API. Google processes it to return a result under its Gemini API terms. Large files sent through Google's file service are deleted automatically by Google within 48 hours.
- Cloud hosting and file storage. Our server, database and your uploaded files are hosted with our cloud infrastructure provider (Vibecode and its hosting partners). Each file is served from a private, hard-to-guess link that is only shown to your signed-in account.
- Email delivery. Your email address is passed to our email delivery provider only to send your sign-in code.
Data is transferred over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Our providers may process data in countries other than your own.
4. Permissions on your iPhone
Askive asks for access to your photo library, and to the camera and microphone only if you choose to capture new media from inside the app. Access is used solely to let you pick or record the items you want to add. You can change these permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
5. How long we keep data
Your files and the content generated from them are kept until you delete them or delete your account. When you delete a file in the app, we delete it from storage and remove its analysis. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
6. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time inside the app: Profile → Delete account. This permanently deletes your uploaded files, their analyses and transcripts, your sessions and your account record. This cannot be undone. You can also ask us to delete your account by emailing support@smbdm.com from the address you signed in with.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or to object to its processing. Most of this you can do directly in the app. For anything else, email support@smbdm.com and we will respond within 30 days.
8. Children
Askive is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use encrypted connections, access-controlled infrastructure and per-account authorisation checks to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, so please avoid uploading material you would not want stored online.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the effective date above, and for material changes we will let you know in the app.
